KEY DATES:
1. On Thursday, Feb. 21 we will not have class because of Arts Fest.
2. On Friday, Feb. 22, Cynthia Noble will give another art lecture.
3. On Friday, March 1, you will have a TEST on chapters 11 and 12 and the Marx reading from Paul Johnson.
There will be two essay questions. One, how do the isms reflect the social and political changes of the first half of the 19th century? Two, How accurate would you say is Paul Johnson's assessment of Marx?
4. On Tuesday, March 5 YOUR SECOND RESEARCH PAPER IS DUE. The length should be between six and ten pages, you should try to have an original thesis, and you may write on any topic in European history up to 1900.
The week of Feb. 18
CLASS ONE: Val will lead a discussion on sections 60 and 61. I will also return your two art assignments and your music summary. HOMEWORK: section 61 and pages 52 through 68 of the Johnson handout on Marx.
CLASS TWO: we will discuss the reading. HOMEWORK: finish the Marx handout for Monday.
CLASS THREE: Arts Fest.
CLASS FOUR: Cynthia Noble's Art Lecture. HOMEWORK: do her art assignment for Monday.
The week of Feb. 25
CLASS ONE: I will collect your art assignments and we will discuss the reading. HOMEWORK: we will select someone to outline the first essay question: How do the Isms reflect the social and political changes in the first half of the 19th century?
CLASS TWO: we will discuss the first essay question. HOMEWORK: we will choose a student to outline the second essay question: How accurate would you say Paul Johnson's assessment of Marx is?
CLASS THREE: we will discuss the second essay question.
CLASS FOUR: TEST on chapters 11 and 12 and the Paul Johnson reading on Marx. HOMEWORK: read sections 63 through 65 in Palmer.
