KEY DATES:
1. On Friday, Feb. 8, Cynthia Noble will speak about Cubism, Dada, and Surrealism.
2. On Friday, Feb. 15, there will be no school.
3. During the first class period of the week of Feb. 25 there will be a TEST on chapters 11 and 12 and the Paul Johnson handout on Karl Marx.There will be two essay questions. One, how do the isms reflect the social and political changes of the first half of the 19th century? Two, How accurate would you say is Paul Johnson's assessment of Marx?
4. On Friday, March 15, your second research paper is due. The length should be between six and ten pages, you should try to have an original thesis, and you may write on any topic in European history up to 1900.
The week of Feb. 4. The long period will be devoted to the Late Modernity Project.
CLASS ONE: I will collect your art projects and we will discuss sections 52 and 53. HOMEWORK: do your music summaries and read sections 54, 55 and 56.
CLASS TWO: we will discuss the reading. HOMEWORK: please sections 57-59.
CLASS THREE: we will discuss the reading. HOMEWORK FOR THE FIRST CLASS PERIOD OF NEXT WEEK: do the art assignment and finish chapter 12.
CLASS FOUR: Cynthia Noble's art talk on Cubism, Dada and Surrealism.
The week of Feb. 18

CLASS THREE: we will discuss the second part of the Johnson handout. HOMEWORK: outline the first essay question: How do the isms reflect the social and political changes of the first half of the 19th century?
